The town of Manassas, Virginia, is located in northern Virginia. Unlike other cities, Manassas is a city in its own right. Unlike many large metropolises, it is independent of any single county and is home to a large, vibrant downtown. Its population is estimated at 37,821 as of the 2010 census. This city is bordered by Prince William County and Manassas Park, which are considered part of the same community by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Although Prince William County is not a part of the city, it is home to several historic sites that date back to the 1850s.
Historically, Manassas was a conservative area in Virginia, but swung sharply to the Democratic Party in 2008. From a 13-point Bush victory in 2008 to an 11-point Obama win in 2010, the city shifted to the Democratic side. Since then, Manassas has supported both Democrats and Republicans by double-digit margins. Despite the area’s small size, it has a growing business community and has plenty to offer.
